South East England Development Agency is Closing on March 31, 2012

The Government has announced that all Regional Development Agencies (RDAs), including SEEDA, will close by 31 March 2012.

Responsibility for economic development and regeneration in England is being passed onto successor bodies, including Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and central Government departments

Our objective is to ensure a professional and cost effective closure by this date.  We have pledged to work closely with our partners, contractors and stakeholders to ensure that the past and future economic benefits of key programmes and assets continue to deliver the greatest economic value for the South East and value for money for the taxpayer.

What we do: Helping Business: SEEDA’s Incubation Programme

For the South East to maintain and improve its position as one of the world’s top performing regions for business competitiveness, it encouraged an increase in the business start up and survival rate. The provision of incubation space specifically geared to the needs of small and starter businesses is an important part of meeting this challenge.

The lack of suitable workspace has been identified as an obstacle for new and small business formation, survival and growth. In parts of the region there is a viability gap stopping the private sector developing appropriate premises, which results in a lack of suitable property facilities available for the needs of young and growing businesses.
