The Government has announced that all Regional Development Agencies (RDAs), including SEEDA, will close by 31 March 2012.
Responsibility for economic development and regeneration in England is being passed onto successor bodies, including Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and central Government departments
Our objective is to ensure a professional and cost effective closure by this date. We have pledged to work closely with our partners, contractors and stakeholders to ensure that the past and future economic benefits of key programmes and assets continue to deliver the greatest economic value for the South East and value for money for the taxpayer.

Rochester Riverside is one of a number of key regeneration sites along the River Medway. A major mixed-use development, Rochester is part of the Medway Waterfront in North Kent. It lies between historic Rochester and the River Medway in the heart of the Thames Gateway. SEEDA and Medway Council developed a strategy to regenerate Rochester Riverside. Outline planning permission was secured and the partners are now preparing the site for development. Medway Council, SEEDA, Communities and Local Government (CLG) and the former Rochester City Council, invested significant funds to acquire the 34 hectare site. Ninety-one million pounds of public investment has been spent on land assembly, site clearance, engineering works and other improvements.
The mixed-uses for the development are outlined in the masterplan, which has been created by EDAW design firm.
Up to 2,000 new homes will be built. A third of these will be for affordable rent and shared ownership. New hotels, offices, shops, restaurants and cafes, a primary school, health and community facilities will all be built within the development. Nearly three km of river walks with cycle paths, parks, play areas and open squares will also be provided for residents and visitors.
