The Government has announced that all Regional Development Agencies (RDAs), including SEEDA, will close by 31 March 2012.
Responsibility for economic development and regeneration in England is being passed onto successor bodies, including Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) and central Government departments
Our objective is to ensure a professional and cost effective closure by this date. We have pledged to work closely with our partners, contractors and stakeholders to ensure that the past and future economic benefits of key programmes and assets continue to deliver the greatest economic value for the South East and value for money for the taxpayer.

Institute for Sustainability
Established in March 2009, the Institute for Sustainability is private sector led to bring forward practical research that supports the delivery of sustainability in the built environment and beyond. The Institute’s core activities include establishing close-to-market collaborative research projects, and using the value from these projects to meet its charitable aims.
It will have a number of facilities in the Thames Gateway, including a base at the Bridge in Dartford, and a research centre in the Dagenham Sustainable Industries Park. The Institute will form an International network initially with:
- Tongji University (Shanghai)
- Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, and
- VTT Finland.
