Seeda Welcomes Two New Board Members
11 December 2007
Minister of State for Competitiveness Stephen Timms has announced two new appointments to the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) Board.
The two Board Members, who represent the business community, include Dr Dolores Byrne, currently Managing Director Innovation in international defence and technology company QinetiQ, and Keith Riley, Managing Director, Group Technical Services of Veolia Environmental Services plc.
SEEDA Chairman Jim Brathwaite said: "We are very pleased that Dolores and Keith will be joining our Board next month. Their substantial experience of leadership in business will be invaluable to us. SEEDA’s Board has a vital role to play in driving forward sustainable economic growth and community regeneration in the region and the experience brought by the new board members will enable them to make an immediate impact.
"I would also like to pay tribute to the hard work and dedication of our outgoing Deputy Chairman Rob Douglas, who made an outstanding contribution, particularly in regard to our relations with Europe and driving forward the Lisbon Agenda."
The Regional Development Agency (RDA) board posts attract a remuneration of £8,371 per year for a commitment of two days per month. The new board members will join the existing SEEDA board, including two recently reappointed members, Imtiaz Farookhi and Professor Bill Wakeham, to take up their three-year appointments from 14 December 2007.
Ministers introduced a rolling programme of appointments to the RDA boards in 2001 to bring them new talent and fresh ideas. The new appointments were made following open competition in accordance with the requirements set down in the Commissioner for Public Appointments Code of Practice.
