Adur Business Centre Exceeds Expectations

22 October 2007

One year on, Shoreham development is a thriving hub for entrepreneurs

Shoreham-by-Sea in West Sussex has become a magnet for new and expanding companies since the opening of the state-of-the-art Adur Business Centre at the iconic Ropetackle building on the waterfront.

The business centre, developed by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) in partnership with Incubation South East, has been a great success since its launch in September 2006, with lettings now ahead of targets at 72.5 per cent occupancy.

Adur Business Centre now provides a home for 80 people operating in up-and- coming companies over 35 offices. Ten out of 30 of the companies, operating in a variety of fields, including the construction, financial and clothing sectors, have been so successful that they have moved on to bigger offices in order to employ more staff.

SEEDA’s Senior Development Manager, Geoff Hawkins, said: “One year on, and things couldn’t be better at Adur Business Centre. Feedback from tenants is excellent and the new Centre is bringing substantial economic benefits to the town. We look forward to seeing it go from strength to strength.”

Adur District Council Leader, Neil Parkin said: “There’s no doubt that the Ropetackle development has put Shoreham on the map as a town that’s on the up and up. The business centre itself has helped many local businesses and this is all good for the local economy. Adur Council looks forward to working closely with SEEDA in the future.”

The Effective Marketing Company has been based at the Adur Business Centre since February 2007. Managing Director Martin Henley says: “The Adur Business Centre offers monthly easy in, easy out licenses and the option to move into larger offices in the same location, which has enabled me to upscale my workspace as my business has grown. If I’d opted for my original office choice, the growth of my business would have been inhibited because I would have been tied into a long-term inflexible lease. I saved money because broadband and telecoms were included and already installed and my clients love coming here, which means more savings for my business on travel as well as happy clients.”

The facility is being managed for SEEDA by GWE Workspace. Director James Monk says: “The centre is a roaring success and is delivering just what local businesses and entrepreneurs are looking for. The high specification of the centre combined with the professional reception services make it easier for clients to focus upon making a success of their businesses and many have been very pleasantly surprised that the cost is so affordable.”
