South East e-commerce Awards Winners Announced 22nd September 2004
The 2004 Awards are a testimony to the increasingly innovative ways in which the UK's small and medium-sized businesses are reaping the benefits of integrating technologies into their business strategies. As a result, judging was more challenging than ever before in the Awards' six-year history. The winning organisations in each of the five regional categories: e-business start-up, e-business, e-trading, best use of Broadband and, for the first time, best use of teleworking were announced at an awards ceremony held by SEEDA, with each receiving a cheque for £2,000. The winning South East-based organisations are:E-business start-up
E-Business
E-Trading
Best use of Broadband
Best use of Teleworking
2004 sees the second year of the national innovation categories, providing entrants with the chance to win an £8,000 cash prize for business excellence in the following areas: mobile and wireless technology, advanced supply chain integration and, new this year, best rural e-business and community. SEEDA's Broadband Manager, Steve Coppinscommented: "It is fantastic to see so many local organisations using technologies to develop innovative ways of working to really improve their business performance. The standard of entries for this year's competition was extremely high and the five winning companies should be proud of their achievement. Many congratulations to the winners and those that were recognised as highly commended. SEEDA wishes all South East firms the best of luck for the national final." Set up by the DTI and InterForum, the E-Commerce Awards are the only Government backed technology awards and aim to recognise and reward organisations that have demonstrated tangible business benefits through their use of Internet and information and communication technologies. SEEDA, the main sponsor for the regional awards, considers E-Commerce and Broadband technology as a fundamental element in securing sustainable development for its urban and large rural areas. With the ambition of achieving a 'digital Britain', SEEDA has taken the lead role for all Regional Development Agencies on Broadband and its 'Wired Region' has a number of projects already in place to maximise access to and the take-up of Broadband.
