Conference conclusions
The definition of what is a small town is critical to any
programme of support – SEEDA’s criteria is an example
of good practice and useful
Health check process used in the UK should be used as
an example of best practice
Very strong agreement that it is the towns of under
10,000 population that are the ones that need help rather
than the larger ones – changes of shopping patterns etc
For towns themselves it must be a ‘bottom up‘ process
where they develop their own solutions – BUT there is
also a need for a top down process in order to develop
mechanisms for supporting local solutions
There is a need to share research – and to develop a
mechanism to map existing research and enable it to be
accessed
