SEEDA Chief Executive Designate responds to Vestas' announcement to build wind turbine plant in Kent
11 May 2011Oona Muirhead, Chief Executive Designate at the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), commenting on Vestas' announcement to build a wind turbine plant in Kent, said:
"We are delighted that Vestas Offshore A/S has signed an agreement with Peel Ports to develop an integrated offshore manufacturing facility at the Port of Sheerness in Medway. This significant investment will create a considerable number of much-needed jobs, utilising the existing pool of skilled workers in the area, kickstart the local economy and create new and exciting opportunities for the local supply chain.
"We have been working closely with our partners to develop the Medway Superhub in Kent and our expertise in this industry resulted in bringing Vestas Offshore A/S and Peel Ports together. The new site is set to become the largest offshore wind manufacturing facility in Europe and it will firmly place Medway as the leading global centre of excellence for the offshore wind industry."
