A new business park in Ramsgate, that was developed to create job opportunities in Thanet, is already 60% sold or under offer, less than a year after the first companies moved in.
The Eurokent Business Park along New Haine Road is a joint project with the South East of England Development Agency (SEEDA) to help create jobs in Thanet by providing new employment space, not previously available in the district. The land for the project was donated by the Thanet District Council, with SEEDA contributing £4.4m for the construction of the buildings and fit-outs of the industrial units. The project also attracted a further £1.3m European Regional Development Funding through SEEDA.
In total, there are 25 units, made up of eight offices and 17 industrial units, and now of these, 12 are now leased by nine different companies, with three further units under offer:
Marketing agents, Caxtons, are continuing to discuss interest being shown by potential tenants.
Chris Moore, Development Director at SEEDA, said: “We are delighted the Eurokent Business Park has attracted so many companies in its first year. Our investment here has created a unique facility, which in an area with some of the highest unemployment rates in the region, is creating much-needed jobs, supporting entrepreneurism and boosting the growth of the local economy. The Park, which would have not been possible without our close partnership with Thanet District Council, has already helped develop a firm basis for investment opportunities in the area, and I am sure it will continue building on its success and create a lasting legacy for the local community."
Cllr. Roger Latchford, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development, Thanet District Council, said: “The Eurokent Business Park is fast establishing itself as great place to locate to. Bearing in mind the economic climate, we’ve had some great results in attracting this many companies to the site. Amongst the tenants we’ve had move in are a new branch of a nationwide business, a company previously located in premises outside of Thanet and a local business that’s expanded rapidly. It’s clear from this that the business park is doing exactly what it was intended to do, that was to create jobs in the area and bring new companies into Thanet.”
