Re-appointments to Board of South East England Development Agency

Pat McFadden, Minister of State for Employment Relations and Postal Affairs, today announced the re-appointment of three existing board members to the South East of England Development Agency.

Alex Pratt will take up his three year reappointment on 14 December 2009 until 13 December 2012. Robert Goldfield and Pamela Charlwood will take up their two year reappointments on 14 December 2009 until 13 December 2011.

Additional information:

1. Regional Development Agency Board Member posts attract a remuneration of £8,538 per year for a minimum time commitment of 2 days per month.

2. The reappointments will be for a period of three years for Alex Pratt and two years for Robert Goldfield and Pamela Charlwood.

3. RDAs are business-led organisations, and provide strategic leadership to promote and co-ordinate economic growth and development, enterprise and regeneration, tackling economic differences within their regions as well as driving up the performance of the regions as a whole. RDAs and Local Authorities, through the new Leaders' Boards, will have joint responsibility for developing and delivering new regional strategies, which integrate the current Regional Economic and Regional Spatial strategies. New guidance for the single regional strategy will be issued later this year and will be an opportunity to set out a clear national framework for how RDAs, with regional and local partners, will work together to deliver sustainable regional economic growth.

4. The original appointments were made following open competition in accordance with the requirements set down in the Commissioner for Public Appointments Code of Practice. All appointments are made on merit and political affiliation plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any declared) to be made public.

5. Within the last 5 years Robert Goldfield, Pamela Charlwood Alex Pratt have not carried out any political activities

6. Alex Pratt and Robert Goldfield hold no other public appointments. Pamela Charlwood holds two further public appointments, one on the Board of the Hampshire Partnership Trust for which she receives a remuneration of £6,005 for 2.5 days per month; and on the South East Region Learning and Skills Council for which she receives a remuneration of £7,392 for 2 days a month.
