South East Partnership for London 2012

13 November 2009

The South East region is well placed to play a significant role in delivering the London 2012 Olympic Games. Our proximity to London and our world class sporting and cultural heritage allows the region to make the most of this once-in-a generation opportunity and create a lasting economic and social legacy from the Games.

The groundbreaking business 'dating agency' CompeteFor was created to enable companies to compete for contracts to help deliver the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) estimates that 75,000 contracts, worth approximately £6bn, are to be won in the lead up to and duration of the games. Already, more than 1,000 South East companies are shortlisted as suppliers to the Games.

SEEDA is looking well beyond the London 2012 Olympic Games to deliver a lasting legacy for the region from the event. The work of our partner organizations will result in ongoing economic, social and sporting benefits well beyond 2012.

The South East Partnership for the 2012 Games (SEP) was formed to ensure that the region delivers a world class performance so that every young person, every business, and every community has the opportunity to gain a positive legacy from the 2012 Games.

SEEDA takes the strategic lead in this role, with the help and support of our key partners, including:

  • Sport England South East
  • Tourism South East
  • Arts Council England South East
  • Government Office for the South East
  • South East Learning and Skills Council
  • South East Partnership Board
  • NHS South Central/South East Coastal
  • Regional Action and Involvement South East (RAISE)
  • Local Authorities
  • London Organising Committee for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG)

SEP has now taken stock of our progress against key targets and has developed the Triple Gold Action Plan as a framework to manage our own and partner’s efforts.
