With the help of a Grant for Reasearch & Development, several companies have been able to develop products and innovative concepts.

Here are some case studies of their progress:

Innovative concepts from CentripetaCentripeta was formed in 2002 to take innovative concepts, generated in the NHS, through feasibility development to market. Hamid Rassoulian the founder of Centripeta is a clinical Bioengineer at Southampton General Hospital. He was given the opportunity to develop and exploit two innovations. In a pioneering move the Hospital assigned the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) to Hamid and with the help of Business Link the company secured a SMART award to do the work.

Dave Hicks Golf PutterDave Hicks Golf Ltd started some 6 years ago designing and carrying out R&D into a novel range of putters. The background for the founder, David Hicks, was precision engineering; David founded Higar Engineering and Automation Ltd a company specialising in the aircraft and computer businesses. The principle behind the golf ideas was to be able to use adjustable weights in the putter head, something that had not been done before, and in the development of devices for custom fit putters.

Lloyd Doyle Ltd prototype machineLloyd Doyle Ltd is a privately owned limited company formed in 1982 and specialising in the design and manufacture of advanced optical and electronic industrial automation equipment for the inspection of bare printed circuit boards. This utilised a novel approach that has been patented worldwide. The directors and shareholders are R.A. Lloyd and Dr K.G. Doyle.

Pedalite LtdPedalite Ltd was formed in December 1998 to commercialise an idea that it should be possible to enable a bicycle pedal to generate its own electric current to provide non-battery dependent safe lighting. Following the grant of a UK Patent, the Pedalite product was developed and produced in the UK.
