Current Initiatives

2008 is looking busy for the South East with many major sporting events coming to the region for the first time.

Badmington EnglandThe 2008 Yonex English National Under 19 Championships

The 2008 Yonex English National U19 Championships took place at the National Badminton Centre, Milton Keynes and played host to some of England's finest young players including Sarah Walker, Fontaine Chapman, Marcus Ellis, Samantha Ward, Arthur Cheung, Nathan D'Cruz and Gary Fox.

A fantastic weekend, with over 130 matches played over three days (Friday 22nd February - Sunday 24th February) at BADMINTON England's base.

The Yonex All England Open 2008 4th – 9th March 2008

The 2008 Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships will be the 98th Championships, and will once again be sponsored by the world's No 1 badminton equipment manufacturer, Yonex. It will be the 25th consecutive year of Yonex sponsorship, making it one of the longest relationships in sports worldwide.
At the NIA Birmingham, this is one of the most exciting, if not the most exciting and certainly the most prestigious event in the badminton world.

Summer Intermediate Tournament

It has been a cause of frustration in the last few years that so many young players have been refused entry to Satellite events because of the number of entries in Singles events and lack of ranking points.

It has been proposed that a series of intermediate events be held during the summer months, restricted to players under 21 on the 1st September of that particular year.

The principle has been accepted and a “pilot” event will be held by OXFORDSHIRE on SAT / SUN the 12th / 13th July 2008. Sat 12th July will be Singles only (Male / Female) and Sun 13th will be Level Doubles only (Male / Female) except for S/Fs and Finals of Singles (dependent on entry). National ranking points will be available and prizes will be according to entry but (hopefully) as good as our usual Satellite prizes.

It will be straight knockout and restricted to players under 21 on 1st September 2008.

Comments are invited to jtate@f9.co.uk or matchplay@oxfordshirebadminton.co.uk

Entry forms will be available on the website in April.
