Marine South East - click to visit web siteThe UK has the largest marine sector in Europe. With a turnover of £37 billion per annum and employing more than a quarter of a million people, the sector is twice the size of the UK’s aerospace industry and is highly successful in key export markets.

The South East is the most important region for the marine industry in the UK with 40% of the industry's employees. The region is home to commercial and leisure marine companies, and a plethora of trade bodies, research organisations, testing facilities, training providers and other support organisations.

The sector has over 4,000 companies supplying marine markets. Over half of these are highly dependent on the sector. The estimated number of people employed directly in the South East marine sector is over 105,000.

Marine South East is the regional marine initiative of the South East of England Development Agency (SEEDA) developed to address the needs of the marine sector in the South East.

Its role is to identify projects of strategic importance to the sector’s growth and to work with sector teams and partnerships to support increased economic development of the marine sector in the South East.
