 It is estimated that there are currently 17,000 companies in the UK which identify themselves as operating in the sector. Collectively they employ around 400,000 people and have an annual turnover of over £25 billion. Nationally, this puts the sector on a par with the aerospace and defence sector. The South East region has at least 1200 companies, employing 25,000 people, with an annual turnover of £4.6 billion. It is also home to 21% of the UK's environmental research and development centres.
Envirobusiness work with businesses from across the environmental spectrum, from small to large, from energy technology to consulting, to waste and recycling. Envirobusiness help businesses in South East England increase their share of the global market for environmental technologies and services.
