RES 2006-2016 Draft

The Review of the Regional Economic Strategy 2006-2016

The Regional Economic Strategy (RES) will shape the future economic development of the South East. SEEDA is responsible for progressing the strategy and will oversee its implementation, but the RES is relevant to all who have an interest in the future performance of the regional economy. A Draft Regional Economic Strategy has now been published, which, following the SEEDA Board on 20 July 2006, will be submitted for Ministerial endorsement.

This draft RES follows on from the Consultation Document which was published on 16 November 2005. This was followed by a 12-week public consultation process. Alongside the Consultation Document we published an independent Economic Assessment of the previous RES (2002 -2012), and a comprehensive Interim Evidence Base.

During the Consultation over 320 responses were received. A full index of respondents is available together with an analysis of responses.

As part of the consultation process, a Draft Sustainability Appraisal / Strategic Environmental Assessment (SA/ SEA) was also prepared by consultants ERM, which included an assessment of potential impacts of the policies proposed in the Consultation Document.

ERM have now completed a detailed Sustainability Appraisal / Strategic Environmental Assessment of the Draft RES. The report has been compiled to incorporate the requirements of the Strategic Environmental Assessment Directive. SEEDA now invites comments on the SA/SEA, its non-technical summary and its annexes, and these will be taken into account in the preparation of the final RES and SA/SEA documents.

Feedback will be used to inform development of the final versions of the RES and the Sustainability Appraisal that will be published alongside it.

There is a 12-week consultation period for the Draft Sustainability Appraisal. Comments and requests for further information should be sent to simonrichardson@seeda.co.uk by Friday 17th March 2006.
