Introduction to the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE)

The new Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) opened for business on the 18th January 2008 and will run to 2013; it replaces the England Rural Development Programme (ERDP). The RDPE is jointly funded by the EU, through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, and the UK Government. The RDPE provides a wide range support for capital projects and training for farmers, growers, foresters, food businesses and rural communities. RDPE News

Business Link are running a programme of complimentary and interactive workshops aimed at helping land based businesses in the SEEDA region to adapt and improve their performance against a background of constantly changing environments, ranging from climate change to regulatory requirements. The speakers make extensive references to case studies to illustrate what can be achieved to keep abreast of the changes.

SEEDA has awarded £27 million Leader funding to support rural businesses in the South East. See the Leader page to find out more.

SEEDA has received one Application from a developing Leader group for the second application window in Southern Oxfordshire. The Application is currently being appraised and the result will be announced in August.


SEEDA has awarded £1.5 m to rural businesses in the South East including £1m to support an expansion of a horticultural packing company in Kent, two on-farm reservoirs, a woodland contractor and an on-farm food processing kitchen. An extension of the Hidden Britain South East project has also been supported under RDPE for two years. This project will help small rural villages to unlock tourism potential. In February 2008 SEEDA ran a series of information workshops for farmers, growers and foresters across the region to promote this new grant scheme.

 

The workshops explained:

  • What is eligible for grant aid and the levels of support that are available.
  • The types of projects that are a high priority in the South East.
  • How to apply and where to apply for grant aid.
  • How applications will be assessed and selected.
  • Who to contact for further information.
