South East Media Network brings Digital Hollywood to London

7 November 2006

Digital Hollywood Europe, the global conference for the entertainment, media and technology economies, is being co-sponsored by the South East Media Network (SEMN), one of the South East England Development Agency's (SEEDA's) Sector Consortia, at London's ExCel Conference Centre from 29th November to 1st December, to promote the growth of the digital content sector in the South East.

Digital Hollywood is one of the world's top conventions for the digital content industry and has been an increasingly influential forum since its founding in 1990. This will be its first foray into Europe and the event is attracting the top players from the industry worldwide, including, BBC, Sony Pictures, MTV, Yahoo, Myspace, Reuters, The Guardian, Microsoft, Vodafone and Cisco Systems, and is expected to draw a huge international audience of senior executives from all parts of the Sector.

London's Digital Hollywood will follow the format of the US event, in that it takes in a series of parallel 'tracks' (or topics), each covering core issues for the digital content industry, exploring the current transformation in the media, entertainment, technology and global communications industries. Participants will include senior executives from these industries and venture capitalists, academics, specialist lawyers and regulators.

The event is very successful in the US and the European programme is expected to improve connections between US and UK businesses.

The tracks to be featured in London are:

  • Digital Rights Management – studying how to protect content in an increasingly open communications framework
  • The Web, Social Framework and the net economy – understanding the potential for open entry and the way in which it could create new commercial opportunities
  • On Demand Content – measuring the future impact of access to content when the customer chooses
  • Hollywood and the Digital Customer – the blockbuster on Broadband and new approaches to producing material for online consumption
  • Digital Music – what's next in the rapid development of delivering music digitally
  • Reinventing Advertising – how can advertising refocus and reach the target market with the fragmentation and personalisation of delivery
  • University Project – developing the next generation of entertainment, media and technology thinkers and visionaries – combining science and commerce with academic theory

Gina Fegan, SEMN Chief Executive, says: "To have Digital Hollywood come to Europe is an amazing opportunity for the whole digital content industry of the South East. Not only is the region right at the heart of the development of the Sector, but this will be a networking opportunity for our companies to become involved with many of the world's top drivers of the digital future."
