SECBE's Mark to Advise on South East Plan Implementation
25 September 2006
The South East Centre for the Built Environment (SECBE) has been invited by the South East England Regional Assembly (SEERA) to be one of the main organisations to advise on the implementation of the South East Plan. Board Member, Mark Southwood, will represent SECBE on the 'SE Plan Sounding Board' (SEPSB), which will play a key role in its implementation. As Chief Executive, Derek Rees, says: "After 18 months' of operation, this is a great compliment to SECBE; more importantly, it's a great opportunity for our members to influence regional government policy."
SECBE, an independent, business driven consortium supported by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), is working with the construction industry to promote the sector's long term growth. Working with its member companies, it has set high targets to enhance skills, improve productivity, encourage innovation and to develop sustainable construction. It is in this last area that Mark Southwood is a specialist. He is Managing Director of Temple Group, an environmental consultancy based in Sussex, and has many years' experience in this field. One of the SEPSB's key tasks is to see that the growth envisaged in the South East Plan does not damage the environment and will, for instance, make the best use of limited resources such as water, reduce waste and increase energy efficiency.
Mr Southwood is looking forward to his new role: "I've already attended my first meeting, which was an initial look at how we must change the behaviour of everybody in the South East - whether they are planners, builders, utilities and, perhaps most importantly, ordinary individuals. If we all grasp what we need to do and collectively look at how it can be done, then we can achieve sustainable economic growth. SECBE is at the heart of delivering sustainable construction which will be a central component." |
