New Technologies to be ENERGISE-d

15 September 2006

Energy majors, leading universities and innovative businesses developing new energy technologies are lining up to join ENERGISE, a specialist network initiated by EnviroBusiness and the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), to encourage innovation and bring forward new business opportunities in the energy sector in the South East region.

Soaring fossil fuel costs and the climate change agenda are forcing the pace of technical change in energy technologies. EnviroBusiness is the new sector consortium, backed SEEDA, created to promote enterprise, innovation and knowledge transfer in all environmental technologies and stimulating business development in the energy sector is one of their core objectives.

The ENERGISE network will broker partnerships between specialist academic researchers and innovative renewable energy technology companies, to develop new products or bring the product of research to the marketplace. Another goal will be to bring new technology and business ideas together with potential purchasers, such as major energy supply companies and venture capital companies looking for investment opportunities.

EnviroBusiness' Chief Executive, Tom Fourcade, says: "Consultation among 200 companies and academic institutions specialising in the sector, from major utilities to new start-ups, showed a lot of enthusiasm for the idea. ENERGISE will help to accelerate the commercial success of the exciting new energy technologies being generated in the South East."
